2011 National Charter Schools Conference in Atlanta, Georgia

Last year in Atlanta the National Charter Schools Conference gathered together 4,147 charter schools leaders, educators and policymakers. Discussions focused around the theme of “Because Every Child Can Succeed” and emphasis was placed on increasing quality and achievement.

With moving keynotes from President Bill Clinton, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Marian Wright Edelman and Eva Moskowitz, the general sessions inspired everyone to reach higher and achieve even more successes. Breakout sessions were filled with information on improving school boards, increasing teacher effectiveness and engaging parent bodies and communities, to highlight a few.

The conference ended with a moving rally on the Atlanta capital steps, making a statement against the Georgia Supreme Court ruling which revoked funding for nine in-session charters and was set to block funding for seven others (http://publiccharters.org/pressreleasepublic/default.aspx?id=527).
