Great Charter Schools
High-quality public charter schools are making a difference.
The stories of great charter schools are as unique as the students they serve and the founders who had a vision of what public education could be. Stay tuned to this page where we will share stories of these great stories.
Some of the best known charter schools are part of a network or organization that operates a number of charter schools in one or more states. These charter management organizations (CMO) and education management organizations (EMO) are taking education models and techniques developed in a charter school and replicating them across the nation. Examples include Aspire Public Schools, Green Dot Public Schools, IDEA Public Schools, Harlem Success Academies, Mastery Charter Schools, the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) and YES Prep Public schools.
Most charter schools, more than 70 percent, are totally unique and are not part of a management organization. Each of these public charter schools was started by individual educators, parents and social entrepreneurs who had an idea to create a new kind of public school for their community.
