Charter schools account for 128 of D.C.’s public schools, and nearly half of all D.C. public school students attend charter schools. Charter schools are authorized by the D.C. Public Charter School Board.
D.C. charters are a diverse community that includes homegrown, single-site charter schools, and nationally recognized models. Each charter school provides unique educational models and experiences; they work together as a sector to ensure public schools have the necessary resources to provide a quality education.
