THE CLASSICAL ACADEMY
POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Latin Teacher (Part-Time)       DEPARTMENT: Secondary

DATE: March 24, 2025                    FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Year: Academic Calendar

This position is part-time for one traditional HS Latin teacher opening (0.4 to 0.6 FTE).

$1200 Welcome Bonus*
*Pro-rated by FTE. Bonus will be added to October 2024 paycheck, provided the candidate has completed all Human Resources requirements.

Annual Full-time Salary: $45,391-$49,121* (salary will be adjusted accordingly for part-time status)
*depending upon previous relevant experience. Actual starting pay rate will be determined after a review of the work experience provided on the job application and resume.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Implements a school program which encourages a positive learning environment and supports The Classical Academy’s mission statement and Core Values.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Principal or Assistant Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Creates a positive atmosphere in the classroom to help ensure success for individual student
  • Sets a plan for classroom management
  • Models and instructs virtuous character traits
  • Develops curriculum and lesson plans in line with The Classical Academy philosophy
  • Creates and administers assessments to monitor progress
  • Works with parents to ensure success for each student in the classroom
  • Communicates progress with parents and works together to ensure tasks are completed
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and in-services as required
  • Coordinates special events and field trips to enrich curriculum
  • Facilitates character coaching opportunities between secondary and elementary students

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves on various committees such as curriculum and planning committees
  • Performs additional duties such as lunchroom monitor, carpool monitor, or detention monitor
  • Supervises student clubs and activities
  • Supports and enforces TCA policies and expectations such as uniform policies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum 24 credit hours in subject area
OR
passing PRAXIS content test in subject area

EXPERIENCE:
Expertise in the subject areas taught

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of The Classical Academy’s philosophy, mission statement, core values, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of basic materials for grade level or subject area
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, supervisors, other teachers, and volunteers
  • Ability to provide a warm and caring attitude toward students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to work well with students and parents from diverse backgrounds or populations
  • Ability to analyze assessment data and to differentiate instruction based on analysis of data and knowledge of effective instructional strategies/methods

Contacts are generally of a nature requiring disseminating and discussing routine information, but may occasionally involve sensitive issues or situations that require a high level of confidentiality

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in a classroom setting and online setting with additional duties to include study hall, office hours, lunch supervision, or other special activities.
  • Required to work normal school hours and other hours as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Typical demands will require employees to:
    • Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of a computer, other office equipment, and writing utensils
    • Spend majority of work hours sitting and occasionally stand, walk, or drive while performing job duties.
    • Frequently be involved in verbal and auditory interaction both interpersonally and through communication devices
    • Occasionally lift/carry burdens weighing up to 35 lbs. and push/pull burdens weighing up to 100 lbs.
    • Stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, reach, and balance while working or helping students
