The 2007 Charter Dashboard indicates the pace of charter school openings is picking up speed. The number of charter schools that opened in each of the past three years between 400 and 450 per year was noticeably higher than the average of the previous four years (340) and nearly twice as high as in the 2003-04 school year (260).
