Senators John Cornyn and Michael Bennet are convening a briefing on charter schools with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. The briefing will highlight efforts to increase funding for the federal Charter Schools Program and the passage of two charter school bills S.1480 The Equitable Access to School Facilities Act (Cassidy-Bennet) and S.3072 Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act (Cornyn-Booker). S. 1480 will make it easier for charter schools to receive federal funding for facilities while S. 3072 will provide more grants to educators who want to start charter schools.
“Public charter schools are an essential part of America’s public education system. The Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act and Equitable Access to School Facilities Act are great steps to strengthen support for the students and families who attend charter schools as well as the thousands of families who would love the opportunity to attend a charter school. The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools applauds our charter school champions and bill sponsors Senators Cassidy, Cornyn, Bennet, and Booker for their steadfast support of public education,” said Nina Rees, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.
