Todd Ziebarth, Senior Vice President of State Advocacy and Support at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, released the following statement:
“On July 5, Governor Evers signed the Wisconsin Biennial State Budget Bill, the final piece of legislation in a historic education funding package for Wisconsin. Combined with more than a billion dollars in public-school K12 education funding in the budget, a separate and significant gap closure investment into independent charter schools makes per-pupil funding far more equitable. This independent charter funding increase is the largest since the program started in 1993 and represents one of the largest per-pupil funding increases during the 2023 legislative sessions across the country.
“We applaud the hard work of the Wisconsin Independent Charter School Advocates, City Forward Collective, and other charter school supporters in the state. We also recognize Governor Tony Evers, Speaker Robin Vos, and Senate Majority Leader Devin LaMahieu for their leadership on this critical issue.”
