Celebrating 2020 Charter Grads III

Celebrating 2020 Charter Grads III

Educators have remained dedicated to providing students with a high-quality education despite challenges the world is facing. Commencement ceremonies look different this year. In this series, we will share how high school seniors at charter schools across the country are celebrating this monumental moment in their lives.

Holds First Graduation Ceremony

Five young adults made history as the first high school graduates of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Charter School in Texas. The students have been in the foster facilities, while some of them were raising children of their own. The graduates shared on video how this experience has been life changing.

Special Farewell to Charter School Athletes

High school senior athletes in the Noble Charter Schools Network are being recognized for their accomplishments. For many students, this helped close their season in a meaningful way. Schools planned virtual spring senior days to celebrate students’ perseverance and achievements. They designed graphics with students’ pictures and coaches commended the athletes while sharing words of encouragement on video.

Treats for Grads

Sabis International Charter School in Massachusetts plans to hold a graduation ceremony for their high school seniors. In the meantime, students picked up their cap and gowns and went home with a little extra—a tote bag with a yearbook, school t-shirt, and mug. Teachers and staff members made the pick up special with decorations, signs, music, and cheering as students drove up with their families to collect their memorabilia.

This post is part of an ongoing series to celebrate high school seniors’ graduation stories from charter schools across the country, despite pandemic-related school closures. Kudos to students and schools for their accomplishments and finding innovative ways to celebrate.
