In a short amount of time, COVID-19 has changed the way we live. The term social distancing is a new norm—and families around the world are forced to adapt to new routines. While the lives of many have changed significantly, one thing that has remained consistent is the drive of school leaders and teachers to continue serving their students the best way they can. Despite the problems many Americans are facing, there are many examples that show how educators are going the extra mile.
Charter School Students Help Protect Healthcare Workers
Delaware Governor John Carney commended a charter school student for his efforts to help protect the workers on the frontlines during the COVID-19 crisis. The junior at the Charter School of Wilmington organized 3-D printing clubs to make face shields to help keep healthcare professionals safe.
In New Jersey, a charter school team is on the same mission to help protect essential workers. Students and teachers at LEAP Charter School donated 150 face shields they constructed using 3-D printers to their local medical centers.
Charter School Helps Families During COVID-19
Parents at University Prep in Colorado thanked the school on video for their rapid response to COVID-19. The school distributed $23,448 to their most vulnerable families during the pandemic from a family support fund. Many parents shared their gratitude toward the school’s initiative and eagerness to support them during these difficult times.
Charter School Students Stay Connected During Crisis
A charter school student shared on video how she enjoys seeing her teachers and friends online. Teachers and students at Universal Bluford Charter School in Philadelphia are staying connected during distance learning.
The Community Charter School of Paterson in New Jersey are also keeping up with each other. The team calls students, teaches online, and uploads videos to YouTube to help students stay motivated.
