***MEDIA ALERT***
Washington, D.C.- Join the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools for a reception honoring Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) members, and African American charter school leaders and advocates for their outstanding accomplishments spearheading the movement to provide students and families with high-quality public-school opportunities.
Jalen Rose, most famous for his career as a NCAA and NBA basketball star, will be honored with our inaugural “Trailblazer award” for his work closing the education achievement gap through co-founding the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy charter school in Detroit, Michigan. Jalen was selected for the Trailblazer award because he leverages his unique platform as a celebrity and athlete to give all students the opportunity to access an excellent education, regardless of their zip code. Jalen currently serves as a co-host of Get Up!, an American sports talk morning television program on ESPN.
This reception will be co-hosted by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, Diverse Charter Schools Coalition, Education Reform Now, KIPP Foundation, National Charter Collaborative, The 74, NAACP-DC chapter, United Negro College Fund and Walton Family Foundation. Please join us to recognize and celebrate African American leaders in public education from across the country!
