National Alliance Statement on House Education and Labor Full Committee Hearing on Public Education Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House Committee on Education and Labor will hold a full committee hearing titled, Underpaid Teachers and Crumbling Schools: How Underfunding Public Education Shortchanges America’s Students.

National Alliance for Public Charter Schools President and CEO Nina Rees released the following statement:

“Today’s hearing is an important reminder that too many public-school students, particularly low-income students and students of color, attend school in inadequate buildings. Public charter schools, the students who attend them and the teachers who work in them, face significant challenges when it comes to school facilities. Charter schools are confronted with a lack of access to public buildings and affordable financing for acquiring or renovating school facilities that is available to district operated schools, and it results in unique challenges and risks.

All public-school students—including the 3 million students who attend charter schools—deserve equal access to safe and adequately equipped school buildings.”
