In 2017-18, more than 7,000 charter schools enroll nearly 3.2 million students. National charter school enrollment increased by more than 150,000 students between fall 2016 and fall 2017a five percent increase. In addition, more than 300 new charter schools opened across the country in fall 2017. This growth demonstrates continued parent demand for charter schools and innovative and high-quality public school options. However, parent demand for charter schools continues to exceed supply.
